TERRAIN PARK PASS PROGRAM

One of the best ways to increase a person’s safety within the Terrain Park is education.  Knowing about “park etiquette” and safe rules of conduct has proven to be very effective in reducing Terrain Park injuries.  Mansfield Ski Club has a Park Pass Program in place to aid in the education of its park users.  All users of the Terrain Park must have a valid Park Pass in order to enter the park area.  The Park Pass application process has an educational component that is designed to inform the applicant of the dangers and possible ways to avoid them.

TERRAIN PARK SAFETY

There’s a great website that contains a lot of really good Terrain Park Safety information. It also contains a decent video called “Smart Style”. We recommend that all Park users, and their parents have a look at the site, and watch the video. It will help keep you safer and improve your enjoyment of the entire season.

Have a look – www.terrainparksafety.org

The Terrain Park areas at the Club are built for your enjoyment. We want everyone to have an opportunity to take some air, grind some rails, and get creative in a safe environment. Here’s a little list of what’s cool and what isn’t while skiing and riding in the parks:

COOL – Hanging out with some friends and helping each other perfect the next trick in the park.
NOT COOL - Taking over a jump or rail, and not allowing others to have a try.

COOL - Calling “drop in” before you take your run at a jump or rail.
NOT COOL - Cruising through the park and not respecting the others who were there before you.

COOL - Challenging yourself, and getting better through practice.
NOT COOL - Challenging your friends to try things that they’re not really ready for.

COOL - Being responsible and using the features in the parks as they were designed.
NOT COOL - Pulling down fences, creating your own jumps and endangering others.

COOL - Wearing the right gear, being respectful of others, and having a good time.
NOT COOL - Hassling the Terrain Park Staff, and disrespecting their directions. They’re just doing their job.

COOL - Challenging your friends to a “head to head” run down the Boardercross.
NOT COOL - Endangering others by stopping anywhere on the trail in the Boardercross. It’s a “ride through” trail. Don’t stop, keep going.

So gang, have fun and enjoy what the Club has to offer, but please keep your freestyle activities to the park areas only.
Helmets are strongly recommended, and any other protective gear is always a good idea.

Follow the steps:
Ride through the park at the start of each day, and look at all the features. Check them out first.
Ride alongside, or over them, slowly the first time to get a feel for them.
Take them with a little more speed and “dial up” the degree of difficulty over a series of runs.
Never, ever, ever, sit, stand, or otherwise hang out in the landing areas. (This one’s a biggie!)

RESPECT!
